Dear Fly Fishermen and clients
This time of year again and I'm afraid - no rest for the guides!
Linecasters would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone -

Drop us an email in the New Year, we are interested to hear from you.

Linecasters has a bumper to bumper schedule for the new year, fuller, bigger and better than the last.  We kick off with a 5 day fully guided trip to St. Lazarus Banks from the 11 - 16 Feb. 2005.  On this trip we will only be tacking 4 clients.  This trip is unfortunately booked out.

We have however provisionally booked a back to back trip to St. Lazarus from the 18th to 23rd January 2005.  This trip is still open and will be able to take a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 people(4days and 5 nights).  Prices are as follows:
  • HOSTED:  4 people including host - R13897

                              5 people including host - R12 897
  • GUIDED:  4 people including professional guide - R15 567

                             5 people including professional guide - R14 567

This includes return airfare to Pemba, all meals on the yacht, petrol and diesel for tenders and yacht as well as hot and cold drinks.
This fantastic venue is fast becoming the ultimate destination and is a must for any serious salt water fly fishing enthusiast.  Yacht Walkerbouts is almost booked out for the 2005 season, so we will be using Yacht Maximillion.  It is a well equipped yacht with great hosts and an excellent skipper.  Don't miss out.

For more info check out the articcle Fred wrote in the November 2004 issue of T.C.F.F. magazine.

Linecasters will definitely be embarking on the Rio Longa trip this year, which never materialized last year because of our tight schedule.  For more information on joining a trip in February or April 2005 contact Fred at the contact details below.  To date there have been no 'serious' fly fishing reports on this exclusive venue.  This is an opportunity to catch species not found in our waters such as tarpon, giant threadfin, caberra snapper, jack crevalle (yellowfin kingfish) and longfin kingfish.  Fish such as dorado, indian mirrorfish, cob, garrick etc. can also be caught.

After an extremely successful fly fishing academy hosted by Dr.Tom Sutcliffe and myself, we have decided to hold three more academies for 2005, due to a huge amount of interest.  Each one will accommodate a different level of fly fishing skills:   beginners, intermediate and an advanced course.

The first course for beginners will be held in Rhodes from the 14 - 19 of March 2005.  The second course for intermediates held in Rhodes from the 12 - 17 of September 2005.  An advanced course will be held in Rhodes from the 7 - 12 of November 2005.

Book yourselves into one of these academies, they are a whole lot of fun and learning and seriously worth your time.

If you would like to read up about our last academy, please look on the Linecasters website.

The Bell River and its tributaries have been a little disappointing as far as the flow is concerned, but there are some very healthy looking rainbows of 12 - 18 inches around, and will make their appearance once we have a little more rain.  The Bokspruit, Sterkspruit and Kraai rivier has been producing some good yellowfish on mainly dries and sawfly larva and a number of rainbows on nymphs. Guiding has been tough with the heat and low water conditions but we have already had some good rainfalls and according to those that know , we will be getting more around mid December.

Linecasters has boldly decided to become the REFFIS accreditation agents in South Africa.  This means that we will be able to accredit potential guides according to international standards.  Examiners are REFFIS accredited instructors Fred Steynberg and Dr.Mario du Preez with independent moderator Dr.Tom Sutcliffe.

Linecasters will not only accredit guides but will assist in training up and coming guides.  This is the first International Guiding Accreditation organisation in South Africa and is not in conflict with any similiar 'existing' organisations.
Have a great holiday season!
